Why payment integration is a must for this year's holiday season
November 07, 2013

Integrated payment systems have the unique ability to streamline processes businesses use to accept credit card payments from consumers. Especially during busy shopping seasons, these advanced platforms can allow store owners to rest easy knowing they are able to process transactions from a variety of channels with little overhead cost.

According to data compiled by Burst Media, a digital advertising agency, consumers will likely spend more money on holiday shopping than they did last year. After surveying nearly 1,000 U.S. shoppers, the company found 39 percent of respondents said they have plans to start purchasing gifts before Thanksgiving. Sixty-six percent of consumers said they plant to spend amounts greater or equal to previous years.

Shoppers are also making purchases through more channels than ever before. Burst Media found 92 percent of survey respondents will utilize the Internet this holiday season, whether to research products, compare prices or actually purchase goods. A large number of individuals claimed they will also utilize smartphones and tablet devices throughout the process. It's not just young, tech-savvy consumers, either. In fact, a report from McAfee, a computer security software company, found people ages 50 and older are spending more time on the Internet with tools such as desktop computers, laptops and mobile devices.

Traditional brick-and-mortar retail is always a substantial element of the holiday shopping season as well. Because of the growing dynamic of shopper behaviors, small and medium-sized businesses may want to consider investing in payment integration technology that makes it easier to seamlessly process credit card transactions from a variety of locations. The weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are some of the most important of the year for many retailers. The ability to connect otherwise separate payment channels through one comprehensive system can provide store owners with a better chance to maximize seasonal revenue.
