February 13, 2015

Twitter is a great tool for sharing information and connecting with users. It can help your business reach a wider audience. Retweets are particularly valuable for raising awareness and getting your business attention. According to Jérôme Delacroix, it demonstrates that a follower appreciated the content in your tweet and the information reaches a wider audience because it was shared with his or her followers.

You can encourage retweets by implementing a few strategies on your twitter account.

Work your funny bone
According to Small Business Trends, making your followers laugh a little can help encourage retweets. Make a joke or add a funny picture to your tweets. This is a great wait to humanize your business and entertain your followers and potential customers.

The Atlantic reported that humor can attract attention and interest. This is why incorporating funny tweets into your platform may be beneficial for your strategy. Exercise your creativity and make jokes that demonstrate that your business is playful, likeable and human.

Add numbers, strong words, links, hashtags and mentions
Social Times noted quite a few valuable characters and elements to include in your tweets to help boost the likelihood of followers retweeting your content. For example, including numbers can help your business increase exposure on social media. In fact, if your tweet has a number it can get 17 percent more retweets than one that does not include a digit.

In addition, there are certain words that increase the potential for retweets. Five of the most retweeted words are:

  • Please
  • Twitter
  • Retweet
  • Post
  • You

Engaging other users is another way to boost your retweets. Mention followers or other twitter account holders in your tweets and include popular or trending hashtags. Tweets with hashtags are 55 percent more likely to be shared by other users.

Links are another component you should consider including when you compose your tweets. Social Times suggested putting a link about a quarter of the way into your tweet. Having links in your tweets can also help you increase the number of followers you accumulate.

Including promo codes, deals, specials and encourage purchases
Twixclusive noted that giving followers promo codes or updates on upcoming sales or specials can help encourage your Twitter reputation. This is also a unique way to help boost sales and advertise the conveniences your business offers. If you accept credit cards, debit cards and other forms of payment, let your customers know that they can pay for your product and services in a variety of methods. Also let them know any additional accommodations you can provide to help encourage them to make purchases.
